It's going to be sort of a tourist selection of vinyl, but guaranteed to be solid stuff and absolutely no gauged prices (like so many dealers that sell at this thang)!

Yeah, I know what yer thinking. Here goes GROUCH keeping weird/erratic hours again like I done did at that other weird space in the basement of MONSTER ISLAND?! Well, this is what happens when you start to unravel from working them there 7 day work weeks! This past weekend I prolly pissed a few folks off by opening up extremely late (particularly on Saturday) due to some heavy record hounding. I can assure you (solemnly swear) that this won't happen again! I have officially hired my first of many employees to help me keep the ship afloat. A tall order indeed! Anyhoo, this weekend RECORD GROUCH will be open with tons o' great cheap/staple/rare records n' such RIGHT ON TIME! 1 to 8 p.m. SATURDAY & SUNDAY!
Weekday hours I'm open from 1 to 7 p.m. Generally, my weekday hours are pretty solid. However, if you are coming from a distance, coming after 2 p.m. is always a safe bet!
All this sort of stuff will hopefully be fine tuned for your shopping pleasure. Hopefully, I can lure a few of you back? Dunno?

New York Night Train’s most popular party (and contest), the Soul Clap and Dance-Off, which last year broke out of Brooklyn to ping-pong back and forth all over the place - from Portland, Oregon to Portland, Maine, and from Mexico City to Tel Aviv, makes it’s 2010 New York debut at its Glassland’s Gallery home Saturday. As always, this month’s Soul Clap will feature all-night dancing to the exquisitely dynamic 45rpm ’60s soul magic of New York Night Train soul proprietor Mr. Jonathan Toubin – plus a 1AM Dance-Off for a $100 grand prize presided over by the lovely MC Laura Leigh.

This week’s contest will be presided over by a distinguished panel of judges consisting of the following pillars of the local community (please follow the links below to support their noble endeavors):

- Beverly, co-proprietor of Lower East Sidefashion boutique Fox and Fawn and blogger
- Cowboy Mark, renowned NYC DJ and owner of Greenpoint vintage/antique/genral store Kill Devil Hill
- Doug Pressman, who not only runs Williamsburg’s latest all-vinyl record mecca, The Record Grouch (he IS the record grouch – so watch out contestants!)
- Ms. Pixie 007, the fine go go go dancer behind many a great New York parties and, by day, the yoga instructor to the stars

The Flaming Fire Art Collective has created a festive and mesmerizing holiday installation entitled "ETERNAL CHRISTMAS: A YULETIDE DREAMLAND, 2009" exploring the mythological and cultural roots of the winter season. The work is inspired by an authentic desire to reconnect humanity to the ritualistic nature and magic of the winter solstice, a time to reflect upon and examine the transitive nature of life and death. This month long residency at 525 Atlantic Avenue in a formerly vacant storefront will combine live musical performances, ritualistic light installations, handmade sculptures and costumes all driven by a unifying sense of beauty and horror, a holiday vision of pathos, pain and power.

ETERNAL CHRISTMAS: A YULETIDE DREAMLAND, 2009 is situated within a sprawling installation entitled the "Temple of the Dying King" created by Chicago based visual artist Camilla Ha (b. 1972) and the Flaming Fire Art Collective, featuring a series of rooms originally conceived in a dream: A grandmother's house filled with birds of prey, Egyptian goddesses, smoking volcanoes and platters of cookies; an ominous dark night room with scattered hermaphroditic bodies lying in shallow pools of water; and a white crystalline bandshell where musical acts perform in an icy fortress of solitude.

ETERNAL CHRISTMAS: A YULETIDE DREAMLAND, 2009 will feature regular live concerts by a rotating cast of live musicians including house band LYDSOD, "a Brooklyn-based psychedelic all-star superband (Brian Turner, WFMU)" who will be recording a full-length christmas album from start to finish during the residency, legendary Goth-Bluegrass superstar Dame Darcy, multi-media artist Alyssa Taylor Wendt, an interactive illustrated bible art-book project, the Flaming Fire fitness band (not a marching band, a running band), famed graphic novelist Lauren Weinstein, live projections, a website documenting the collective's activities (eternalchristmas.org) and a meditative atmosphere where visitors can sit and reflect upon the transformational magic and ritualistic mysteries of life during the darkest days of the year.

For holiday shopping, Flaming Fire and Record Grouch (Doug Pressman) will be selling art and music from their collective and other artists that they recommend and enjoy.

This month long residency is made possible by the Art Assets and ISSUE Project Room. An ongoing schedule of events will be available at www.eternalchristmas.org
